Chapter History

The Gamma Rho chapter was founded November 15, 1913 by William J.Reuter, and has been the longest continually running chapter on the University of Oregon campus. Other chapters on campus may have been established prior to our founding, but Gamma Rho is the only fraternity chapter that is still running and has never been shut down.

Although Gamma Rho's membership and condition have not always been exemplary, the perseverance and innovation of its members have given Delta Tau Delta a rich and proud history on this campus. The current address of the Chapter House is 1886 University Street. The current shelter was originally built for Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity.

Other Gamma Rho locations have included the current Gutenburg College, located directly across the street from the shelter, as well as a house located at 18th and Alder Street. The chapter currently works with Gamma Rho Housing Corporation to maintain and improve the shelter. This organization is comprised of alumni and is currently headed by Reed Kirk. The chapter is still facing harsh living conditions, but the state of the chapter house is ever-improving.Because of the dedication of its undergraduate membership and recent alumni, Gamma Rho has evolved into a well-established, recognized, and successful fraternity chapter and has paved the way for much of other chapters' programming on campus. We are working to improve alumni relations, philanthropic donations, and service efforts. We are currently excelling in chapter programming, recruitment, pledge and member education, risk management, and brotherhood, while maintaining a high social expectation and embodying the mission and values of our fraternity.
